Camping in Death Valley, Paxson Woelber

His Place Prepared

He swung the door wide open
To show me a place real fine
Could you make a few changes, I asked
That is, if you don’t mind

Place a wingback chair, right over there
In the corner by the stairs
That’s where she’d read her Bible
and say her morning prayer

And open up that patio door
To let the breeze blow in
So I can smell a garden
Like her fragrance on the wind

I’ll wait however long it takes
To see her in this place
But I don’t have to wait at all
To see my sweet love’s face

Hang some pans above the stove
And let the fan run high
The clank of tin reminds me
Of our daily dinnertime

Then play some good ‘ol gospel hymns
And I’ll hear her sing along
Sometimes she cries out loud
Worshipping you in song

He said, I’ll stay here with you
To make this place just right
What else can I do for you my son
To make it the way you’d like

I bowed my head in humble thanks
And asked for one thing more
Please, go stand by her side instead
And I walked Him to the door

Tell her that I’m waiting
To keep on going every day
And give your Spirit to her
To lead her in Your way

I’ll wait however long it takes
To see her in this place
But I don’t have to wait at all
To see my sweet love’s face
